Goa scrape past BoI via tie breaker in Surendra Anand state tourney
Pune, Dec 17 (UNI) Goa Under 21 team's goalkeeper Kristopher Alphanjo brought off two fantastic saves and helped his side get the better of last year's runners-up Bank of India, Mumbai 4-2 via the penalty shoot out after the game remained scoreless in regulation time in the final of the Surendra Anand Memorial invitation prize money state-level soccer tournament, which concluded at the Ammunition Factory ground, Khadki, near here, today.
Goa U-21, playing Brazilian brand of soccer, and BoI remained scoreless at full time after missing some glit-edged chances that came their way.
The issue, however, was resolved in the tie breaker.
In the tie-breaker, Saby Olivara, Freddy Olivera, Pridata Ribello, Vincent Corgis scored for the Goans, while BoI reduced the margin through Aksha Jadhav and Enton Saldana.
Alphanjo brought off two brilliant saves off Prakash Mehara and M K Karmughilan of BoI, thereby winning the 'Man of the Match' title.
The other prize winners were Vinci D'Suza - Goa (Best Player), Vijay Chinnapa (Best Goalkeeper), Sangam (Highest Goal Scorer), Saby Kuruth.
Star of Pune award went to Elton Lime of Thandarcatz.
The winners received a cash award of Rs 51,000 cash and a glittering trophy, while the runners were awarded Rs 41,000 and a trophy.
The prizes were distributed by the general secretary of All India Congress Committee Iqbal Singh, Secretary and MLA Chandrakant Chajed.
Following is the result of the finals: Goa U-21: 4 (Saby Olivara, Freddy Olivera, Pridata Ribello, Vincent Corgis) beat in tie-breaker Bank of India, Mumbai 2 (Aksha Jadhav, Enton Saldana).
