Financial scheme for poor pregnant women introduced in Haryana

Chandigarh, Dec 17 (UNI) The Haryana Health Department has implemented an incentive based Janani Suraksha Yojana under National Rural Health Mission to provide financial support for delivery to pregnant mothers of families living below the poverty line so as to bring down the infant and maternal mortality rates.

Stating this here today, a spokesman of the Health Department said that each beneficiary of the scheme would get Rs 500 in cash in case of domiciliary delivery. In case of delivery in an institute, government or private, an additional assistance of Rs 200 would be given.

He said that the scheme also aimed at providing health services to the women during and after delivery and arranging transportation, if required, for their deliveries so to take them to some other health institute in an emergent situation.

Under this scheme, the pregnant woman would be registered at the initial stage of her pregnancy and in case of any complication, such cases would be guided accordingly, he added.
