DMK village panchayat chief attacked by rivais
Chennai, Dec 17 (UNI) The DMK President of the Sirukulathur Village panchayat and his two associates were injured when opposition party activists attacked them at suburban Andangkuppam near here today.
Police said the injured Panchayat President Hari Krishnan and four of his friends were returning to the village, after attending the reception for DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at Menambakkam, when a ten member gang, led by AIADMK functionary Madhan, who came in two cars and attacked them with country-made bombs and with sharp-edged weapons befor fleeing from the scene. The assailants, however, left their vehicles behind.
On being informed, the police rushed to the spot and moved Harikrishnan and two others to a private hospital at Guindy, where their conditions were stated to be out of danger.
Police recovered two cars, a two-wheeler and seven country-made bombs from the spot and were on the look out for the assailants.
Police suspected that the motive behind this attack was political rivalry against Harikrishnan, who defeated Madhan's mother and AIADMK candidate Ranjitham in the recent local bodies elections.
