CPI warns "important decisions" against Central policies
Tiruchirpalli, Dec 17 (UNI) CPI National Executive Committee member R Nallakkannu today said the party would take some ''important decisions'' on the anti-people policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government in its three-day national council meeting to be held in Kolkatta from January four.
Talking to newspersons, he said both the CPI and CPM would work together in raising their voice against the economic reforms of the UPA Government. Similarly, the party would strongly oppose any move by the Centre to further decrease the interest rate of the Employees Provident Fund to eight per cent from the present nine per cent.
On Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee's hunger strike in Kolkatta against the taking over of farmland for the Tata's car project at Singur, he said, ''though the party was in favour of industrialisation, it should not be done at the cost of farmlands and agriculture.'' Replying to a query on AIADMK supremo Ms J Jayalalithaa's recent remarks of a possible political realignment in Tamil Nadu, he said ''it might be just her wish''.
