Two projects for Mysore approved under JNNURM
Mysore, Dec 16 (UNI) The Union Urban Development Ministry and Mysore City Corporation have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for taking up two projects in the city under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) at a cost of Rs 240 crore in the next seven years.
The MOA was signed by Union Urban Development Joint Secretary M Rajamani and MCC Commissioner Dr K N Chandrasekhar in New Delhi yesterday.
In a press note issued here today, Mr Chandrasekhar said the centre had approved two major projects for the city -- overhauling of the drinking water distribution network at an estimated cost of Rs 194.54 crore and Rs 45.62 crore worth slum rehabilitation project. A total amount of Rs 1,834 crore had been sanctioned to the city under the JNNURM project to be taken up in the next seven years. The Ministry had agreed to provide 80 per cent of the funds and the rest to be shared by the State Government and local bodies.
He said that under the agreement, the local bodies have to take up some measures to mobilise economic resources through scientific tax collections and revised water tax in the coming years.
Under the slum rehabilitation programme, the corporation would take up construction of 2,788 houses in 20 slum areas in the city and the Ministry would release the necessary funds in four instalments, he added.
