Tania snatches title, her first in Natl A, Harika second

Chennai, Dec 16 (UNI) Woman Grandmaster Tania Sachdev drew her final round against Aarthie Ramesh to lift the Win TV 33rd National Women 'A' chess championship which concluded here today.

The Delhi lass, who is studying literature, has come up to this high level with a much hard work. In fact, she is maintining her top 20 position in the world girls Junior section for more than a year and in the latest ranking she is No 14 in the world, ahead of her young compatriots.

Dronavalli Harka and S Meenakashi, who are yet to win the National Woman 'A' title, finished a creditable second and third, respectively.

Aarthie Ramesh, wife of Grandmaster R B Ramesh, who has not been in the Indian team for the last three years, came back into reckoniing by occupying the fourth position.

Though the top seed S Vijayalaskshmi was a favourite to win the title for a record seventh time, she was humbled by Amruta Mokal (Maharashtra) in the crucial final round, Viji had to be content with fifth position.

But Amruta got her 11-round WIM norm and finished in the sixth position in this championship.
