President to inaugurate Intl Conference on PLMSS

Bangalore, Dec 16: President A P J Abdul Kalam will inaugurate a three day international conference here on December 18 on trends in product life cycle modeling, simulation and Synthesis-PLMSS-2006.

Jointly organised by the Aeronautical Development Agency, Defence Research Development Organisation and HAL, the conference has assumed importance as product innovation was increasingly becoming the main tool for compettive advantage and a crucial driver for economic growth. It would provide a platform for the industry and academia to share knowledge on several tools and also the outcome of research activities across the country to improve performance, enhance fuctionality, lower cost and to provide sustainable impact on the environment.

ADA in a release here said that it had been a leader in the field of Computer aided design, manufacture and engineering and had implemented product life cycle management (PLM) tools in the development of Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, whose five protypes are currently flying.

The PLM tools were used across the enterprise which included HAL, Aircraft Research and Development Centre and the Limited Series production Centre Division of HAL.

The conference would be attended by academicians, researchers and practioners from industry to share their solutions and address future challenges, best practices and discuss new trends.

The conference would have 20 technical sessions, eight keynote speakers of international repute besides 14 invited speakers. It would also have a panel discussion on effect of changing scenario on PLM penetration.
