Police recover car used for looting Rs.46.5 lakh cash of Indian Bank
Vadodara, Dec 16 (UNI) Police today recovered a car used by two employees of the Indian Bank for ferrying Rs 46.5 lakh cash from its Anand branch to headquarters at Raopura here, abandoned near Padra toll gate, about 15 km from here.
Yesterday, two armed miscreants on a motorbike had allegedly looted the cash and sped away after firing two shots at the car driver, fatally injuring him and the bank staff.
Padra Police Inspector C D Parmar said they found the silver coloured car abandoned at around 0930 hrs. Senior bank and police officials rushed to the spot along with FSL team and a dog squad.
Meanwhile, the condition of the car driver, Maqsood Saiyed, admitted to the Karamsad Hospital in Anand, is stated to be critical, as the bullets are still lodged in his body.
Sources said five police teams have been sent to different parts of Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Kheda districts to trace out the two unidentified miscreants, who intercepted the taxi carrying the cash at Samrakha near Ahmedabad-Vadodara Express way last evening.
The duo, riding a motorcycle wearing black helmets, had fired two shots at the driver, forcing him to stop the vehicle. They looted the cash from the car after pulling out the injured driver and two women bank employees -- clerk Vidya Prabhakar and peon Amrut Pravin.
After the incident, both the women staff members were taken to an undislosed place for interrogation.
Police said even as the robbery took place near the Express Way, the miscreants took the Ahmedabad-Vadodara national highway eight to reach Padra town via Vadodara. Besides checking of vehicles, a vigorous search operation had been undertaken in and around Padra, the sources said.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended on the family of the taxi driver Maqsood, a resident of Hadgud village in Anand, as his daughter's marriage is fixed for tomorrow.
