NE Doordarshan centres bag five national awards

Guwahati, Dec 16 (UNI) The Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati (DDK-G) and Programme Production Centre (North East) (PPC-NE) have won five awards at the national-level Doordarshan awards.

The DDK-G today convened a news conference at its office here, for an interaction session with the winners.

Deputy Director General (DDG) (NER), Guwahati, V Sekhose had received the best DDG award, director (News), DDK-G Ramani Malakar the best Regional News Unit (RNU) and best programmes each in news and current affairs, wildlife and environment and children's programme categories.

DDG (NER) Sekhose, addressing the press meet, said the awards organised at Jalandhar on November 18, were a recognition of the efforts the staff of DDK put in planning and executing the programmes.

She stated that the public broadcaster was giving due importance to audience research surveys, which were being conducted by it on a regular basis. ''We also received many phone calls and written suggestions from our viewers, besides the findings of our own surveys. We work hard on those feedback,'' she added.

The DDG (NER) informed that the quality and other aspects of its programmes are monitored on a daily basis as Doordarshan covers 79 per cent geographical area and 83 per cent population in Asom.

She said the commissioned programmes are viewed by a preview committee of the Doordarshan and on the basis of their assessment and viewer feedback, the best programmes are re-telecast.

DDG (Guwahati) Sailo, also present on the occasion, informed that the Doordarshan was targeting all remote areas along the international borders in NE in a phased manner.

He said high-powered transmitters were being installed in more populous areas in the border areas and small transmitters in other areas. ''We are targeting cent per cent coverage soon,'' he added.
