'Mamata's life will be 'snuffed out' by stubborn CPI-M and Cong'

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) NDA Convenor and JD (U) MP George Fernandes today said that a ''precious life is going to be snuffed out'' if the Congress and CPI-M succeed in pushing Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee to fast unto death for some more days.

''The stubborness with which the Marxist Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has succeeded in creating a sitution along with Congress to push Mamata, who is now on the 13th day of her fast, to continue for a couple of days more,'' the veteran leader said, in a statement here.

''It has nothing to do with the baby car of the Tatas, which is supposed to create jobs for the unemployed in West Bengal,'' Mr Fernandes said, adding that the CM should know it was not the baby car which will create jobs but ''Mamata's sacrifice.'' Recalling the Green Revolution I, the senior leader said that the it was the farmers who created revolution for the industry as well for agriculture. ''Mamata is today fighting for the second revolution and this message should go to everyone in the country, for industry, including Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's baby car, will find a place in it,'' he asserted.

Mr Fernandes, noting that the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industries (ASSOCHAM) had released a document titled 'Green Revolution-II -- A Road Map 2007,' said that the first Green Revolution created plenty of jobs, including for agricultural workers, turning the country from a starving nation to to a grain exporting country and winning the admiration of people of the Third World.

''India had paid back the loans it had taken from the World Bank and its affiliates for the purpose of Green Revolution, thereby improving its credit-worthiness,'' he said, noting that developed countries like Canada, which were facing shortage of agricultural labour, asked India to provide them with experienced farmers.

''Many farmers from Punjab and Haryana went to these countries to settle and are remitting part of their incomes to their relatives in India,'' Mr Fernandes added.
