Gangtok, Dec 16 (UNI) Sikkim High Court has directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider and dispose off the Sikkim Cricket Association's (SCA) request for full membership within three months.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice B K Roy and Mr Justice A P Subba, gave the direction yesterday while adjudicating a petition filed by SCA Secretary Tikka Subba and others filed on September 19.

The petitioners alleged that though SCA became an Associate member of the BCCI in 1991, the national body had not yet accorded it the status of full membership despite several requests.

Even its applications for full membership have not been properly acknowledged, the petitioners alleged.

They also alleged that the promotion of the game suffered in Sikkim since the SCA as an associate member was only entitled to attend the Annual General body Meeting but not to any grant, subsidies and infrastrctural grants.

Petitioners alleged that though the objective of the BCCI was to promote cricket throughout the country by providing grants and benefits to each state body equally, but it had not followed the same and proceeded in a discriminatory and whimsical manner.

The petitioners prayed the court to intervene and direct the BCCI to initiate steps for granting them full membership.
