Foundation stone laid for Mahindra World City

Jaipur, Dec 16: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today laid the foundation stone of the much delayed Mahendra World City here.

Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy and Mahindra Group Chairman Keshub Mahindra were among the industrialists present on the occassion.

The state Chief Minister said, ''It is a dream come true. At last things are beginning to happan.'' The project conceived about a year back has run into trouble following the differences within the cabinet and the opposition by the farmers whose land were to be acquired for the project.

Spread over an area of 3,000 acres, Mahindra World City, Jaipur will provide corporates a world class platform to expand their business to compete globally.

It is being developed as a multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZs) on the format of an 'integrated Business City' and is a joint venture between Mahindra Gesco Developers Ltd and Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation Ltd (RIICO), an agency of the Rajasthan government.

Infosys and Wipro are also associates of the projects.

Ms Raje said Rajasthan offers a good investment destination offering a peaceful industrial climate.

Outlining her vision for the state she said, ''what the state needed is a good blend of its heritage with technology driven industry to emerge as a modern developed state.'' She expressed her appreciation of the corporates for their involvement in the human resource development through the mid-day meal programe.

Mr Murthy emphasised the need for investing in human resource to take advantage of the new emerging opportunities in the job market.

He said the key ingredient in today's business is human talent.

''Competence and performance are the sole criterion for job as industry has to compete globally,'' he added.
