Five of a family die in gas explosion

Nashik, Dec 16: Five members of a family, including a woman and three children, were burnt alive in a gas explosion at Igatpuri tehsil town, about 50km from here last evening.

Police said the family at Teen Lakri area belonged to Lakshmi Prasad Shah, hailing from Bihar.

The incident occurred when Shah, while trying to lift a plastic can containing around five litre petrol inside his kitchen, slipped and the petrol fell on the stove which he lit up to cook food, leading to the explosion.

Police said five family members were roasted to death while two were rushed to the hospital by the neighbours.

The two were out of danger, police said.
