Delay in providing information will now incur fines:

Jodhpur, Dec 16 (UNI) Taking the first year of Right to Information Act as a period of training for the public and administration, Central Information Commissioner Habibullah said any delay in providing information would now incur fines.

Dr Habibullah was speaking at a workshop organised on Right To Information Act organised by Bharat Seva Sansthan here.

The first year of the implementation of the Act can be considered as a period of learning and training but now delay in providing information will not be tolerated anymore, he said.

The Commissioner said the first year also saw the recruitment of Information officers but the officials cannot deliberately delay the process other wise the Commission will impose penalty on him.

The Commission now takes four months time to process and provide any information but with computerisation of the whole process, any citizen can obtain the information on internet sitting at home.

The central government has taken up the project of setting up community service centres in about one lakh villages in the country, he informed.
