Lucknow, Dec 16 (UNI) The three day meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party 's National Party Executive followed by National Council from December 22 to 24 here would be used to take party's sagging fortunes in Uttar Pradesh to a new high.

Keeping the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly polls in mind, the party's mega event would be the rallying point for the leaders and the workers which have tasted success though in a small dose in the recently-held civic polls in the state.

''BJP is poised to launch an agressive campaign for the coming assembly polls in UP with the presence of national leaders providing impetus to their endeavours,'' the party's National General Secretary and spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters here.

Mr Naqvi, who was here to oversee the arrangements for the three-day party's meeting, said the the BJP was now much more confident.

''While the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party is faced with the people's discontentment, the BJP stands a good chance to regain power in UP, '' he claimed.

Admitting the importance of UP in the national politics, he said the assembly polls in UP was also one of the reasons for selecting Lucknow as the venue of the meeting of the national party executive and the national council, the party's apex organisational body.

Senior BJP leaders, including former prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and L K Advani, would be here to give party a new direction and spell out strategy for the coimng assembly polls. A massive 'parivartan rally' (rally for the change) had been organised on December 24 to mark the begining of sustained party campaign for the assembly polls, Mr Naqvi said.

''The Parivartan rally would be held on the eve of the birthday of former PM Mr Atal Biharti Vajpayee who is also the local MP from Lucknow'', he said.

National Party President Rajnath Singh, who hails from UP, has already called upon the party workers to make this party event a grand success. He would arrive here on December 20 and would remain here till December 24.

In reply to a question, the BJP's National General Secretary reiterated that the party was of the view that the UP's assembly poll should be conducted in the presence of central forces. ''The party demands deployment of central forces otherwise the fair and free elections in the state under Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav are a distant poosibility,''he remarked.
