Anbumani warns striking medicos of action
Bangalore, Dec 16 (UNI) Terming the indefinite hunger strike by the Executive of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Resident Doctors Association in New Delhi as ''most unfortunate'', Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss today warned of ''tough decisions'' against the agitating doctors if the functioning of the institute was affected.
Addressing mediapersons after attending the 11th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) here, he appealed to the striking medicos, protesting against the passage of the OBC Reservation Bill, to resume duty, stating that it was not a good sign to see doctors on strike.
''It is most unfortunate that the doctors and students went on frequent strike at AIIMS, affecting the general public, especially patients who come from various parts of the country,'' he said.
Dr Ramadoss said all efforts would be taken to ensure that the functioning of the institution was not hindered. ''Some tough decisions will be taken according to the demands of the situation,'' he said, refusing to divulge what actions would be taken.
Immediately after passage of the controversial OBC Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, as many as 20 members of the executive of the AIIMS Resident Doctors Association went on a hunger strike. The agitating doctors have also convened a meeting of other organisations and colleges seeking their support.
