A youth was acquitted in Bomb Blast case of 1990

Mumbai, Dec 16 (UNI) A Fast Track court today acquitted a youth from all the charges levelled against him in the 1990 Bomb blast case at Vile-parle in North West Mumbai, more than 15 years after the incident due to lack of evidence.

While pronoucing the Judgement here, the second Ad-hoc Additional Session Court Judge P R Belorkar said there was no no evidence found against Saurabh alias Abhimanyu Yeshwant Altekar (33) for his alleged involvement in the explosion of a crude bomb near Navprabhat Cooperative Housing Society, Vile-Parle in western suburbs on December 20, 1990.

Judge Belorkar has acquitted Altekar from all three charges--section 307 (attempt to murder), 427 (damage of property) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and u/s 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substance Act, which were levelled against him.

On early hours of December 21, 1990, a crude bomb had exploded near New Prabhat Cooperative Housing society, Vile Parle. However, no no casualty was reported in the explosion.

Talking to reporters after the judgement, Altekar said that he had made an application for turning approver in the case, which was rejected by the prosecution. He had also given the name of witnesses to the prosecution which did not call them for examination.

He said he will approach the upper court praying for compensation and demanding action against persons who had given false evidence as well as the police personnel, who booked him in a false case.
