A CRPF jawan, 2 Maoists killed in police-militant encounter

Bankura, Dec 16 (UNI) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and two Maoists were killed in an encounter between police and the Maoists at Bagdugli Forest in Sarensokra village of Bankura district, 54 km away from this town last night.

Bankura SP Rajesh Kumar Singh said here today that seven policemen were seriously injured and rushed to Bankura Sammelani Medical College hospital. Two of them are in a critical condition.

''Several Maoists were also injured, who fled towards the neighbouring Jharkhand,'' Mr Singh said.

Mr Singh had rushed to the site this morning with the IG (Western Zone) Arun Gupta following gunbattles between the CRPF and the Maoists last evening.

Combing operations have started today in the jungle areas in and around Bankura, Purulia and Midnapore districts.

Jharkhand state police has been cautioned in connection with the Maoist operations.
