4 special police teams to crack jewellery theft case: SP

Perambalur, Tamil Nadu, Dec 16 (UNI) Four Special Police teams have been formed to nab the four-member unidentified gang that attacked two jewellers and robbed them of gold ornaments and cash valued at Rs 30 lakh near Sadaikkanpatti Village under Kunnam Police limits here late last evening Two teams have been deputed to conduct investigations at Villupuram, Kancheepuram and Chennai while the other two were holding investigations in the district, Perambalur Superintendent of Police Prem Anand Sinha told UNI today.

The investigating teams had gathered some fingerprints of the culprits and were in the process of finding out whether they matched with those belonging to history-sheeters.

Asked if this could be the handiwork of inter-state gangs, he replied in negative and said all the four culprits had spoken in Tamil. The police suspect they might be hailing from Chennai or Kancheepuram or Villupuram.

He said the gang had closely watched the movements of the jewellers for several days before executing the mission.

The SP further said a tanker lorry used by the gang to stop the occupants (jewellers) of the car was stolen from Chennai. Similarly, the police had seized the car in which the robbers fled after committing the act.
