Remixes ruin the original version of songs: Kunal

Safai, Etawah, Dec 15 (UNI) Remixes ruin the original version of the songs, said Kunal Ganjawala whose voice mesmerised listeners with ''Bheege Honth tere''.

He said there is an urgent need to stop the obscene gestures which are being served in the form of remix songs.

Kunal -- who is here for a presentation during the ongoing Safai Mahotsav told UNI ''Bollywood has always boasted of melodious music since time immemorial. There is no dearth of original music and the credit goes to various music directors of all genres. But after a wave of originality, it now seems that the music industry is running low on creativity as the new order of the day is remixes.'' Remixing old melodies and then making women dance atrociously to it is not acceptable to me at all. It ruins the aesthetics of the music and the dance. Even if the dance is compulsory, why show women wearing such bare minimum cloth in all the videos, when it can be done more tastefully, Kunal maintained.

Indian classical music is like the river Ganga, it can never run dry, and it is limitless, he added.

Kunal said ''the age old question that remains is whether DJ remix albums spell good or bad for the music industry? the answer is certainly opposite. Remixes ruin the original version of the song.

Today market is flooded with hundreds of such albums and the same songs are remixed again and again until they lose their original charm.'' ''I was not even a bathroom singer. I began singing only when I was ragged by my seniors, as a fresher, in Elphinston College, Mumbai. I was passing by them whistling a tune when a few of them caught hold of me and commanded, 'Sing a song'.'' ''I was shocked. I said I never sang in my life. They said, when he can whistle tunes so well, why can't he sing?'. They caught hold of my neck saying, they would throttle me if I didn't. With great difficulty I sang 'Nazar ke samne' from Aashiqui and 'Ik din mit jayega' from Dharam Karam. They made me sing in college festivals and thus, started my love and confidence for singing.'' After winning Filmfare, IFA, MTV, Star Dust, AB MAX awards for his sensuous singing in Murder, Kunal's 'Channa Ve' swayed the audiences, while it rocked them by setting their toes tapping to 'Kaal Dhamal', an item song in Kaal. Recently, his song 'dil na liya' in Krish and 'khai ke pan Benaras wala' in Don have made him won loads of applauds.
