Lack of implementation mars Govt schemes: Sheila
New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) Admitting that lack of proper implementation marred schemes of the state government over the last one year leading to problems arising out of the sealing and demolition, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today asserted that there had been an improvement in all areas of administration, specially the water and power situation Addressing a press conference on the occasion of eight years of the completion of the Congress Government in Delhi under her Chief ministership, Mrs Dikshit asserted that her Government had achieved an improvement in the power and water situation in the capital over the last one year despite a rising population.
''Though the direction taken in all the areas of governance over the last one year have been correct, implementation of plans and schemes has not been as fast as it should have been,''Ms Dikshit said.
''However, that does not mean that the last one year of the Delhi Government has been a failure. For, despite a rising population, we have managed a signifigant improvement in the power and water situation in the capital city. Infact, Delhi is the only state in the country where there is no deficit budget,''She told newspersons here.
Also, in the area of education, she said 87 additional colleges had been affiliated with the Guru Gobind Singh university to meet the rising educational needs of the people.
Asked as to what led to the problems arising out of the sealing and demolition operations in Delhi, she said,''problems arising out of sealing and demolition are an offshoot of failure in planning which resulted in the demand for accommodation far exceeding the supply leading to several people in various areas resorting to additional constructions in their houses.'' Blaming it all to a multiplicity of authorities in Delhi, Ms Dikshit said,''a multiplicity of authorities in Delhi does lead to delays.'' In this regard she stated that the Centre had set up the Omaish Saigal committee to look into the issue of trifurcation of the MCD, a report on which had been submitted recently.
Among her Government's achievement during the year, the Chief Minister referred to the development of a "monitoring software" which would enable all the ministers of her Government to monitor day-to-day developments in their departments.
''The software has been installed in the office of each Minister to enable speedy monitoring of their department through a website,''she said.
Describing it as an innovative step towards making the administrative system more transparent, she said,''it is a significant step towards implementing e-Governance.'' More UNI AR YA BST1942
