HC directs CWC to file report on 2 minors rescued on December 22
Mumbai, Dec 15 (UNI) The Bombay High Court has directed the state's Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to submit an inquiry report in a case of sexual harassment of two minor girls rescued nine months ago from a local bar here, on December 22.
Justice Ranjana Desai came down heavily on State Government Pleader Satish Borulkar for the lethargy displayed by the CWC.
She said the CWC was not passing orders in matters regarding rescued girls and this attitude was being maintained in many cases.
The CWC has to submit the report within three months of the rescue as per the Juvenile Justice Act, unless in special cases where the reasons are to be recorded but this case has no special reasons for the delay, she said.
While the court was hearing a petition filed by the parents of the girls seeking custody, their counsel Rajendra Pai submitted that the girls be handed over to the petitioners as they were parents.
However, the report to be submitted will comprise inquiry of not only the police officers who rescued the girls but also the probation of the girls backgrounds and home condition, which will lead to the decision as to whether they should be handed over to the parents or sent to a rehabilitation home, Mr Borulkar told reporters.
The girls were rescued on March 22 from Commander Bar at Chembur Naka and since then have been kept at the government's Special Home for Child Rehabilitation at Deonar. One of the girls was earlier rescued from a bar here two year ago. Both the girls hail from Rajasthan.
