IT notice to Anant's father; Government insensitive

New Delhi, Dec 15: The BJP today charged the government with being ''insensitive'' by serving Income Tax notice to Adobe India CEO Naresh Gupta asking his source of income for paying Rs 50 lakh to free his three-year-old son Anant from kidnappers.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said that it was the ''height of insensitivity'' on the part of Income Tax authorities to ask a father where he got money to pay the ransom to get his child free.

She said that Anant remained in captivity for three days and everyone prayed for his freedom. ''Everyone knows that to get one's child free, a parent could do anything... beg, borrow or steal,'' she pointed out and said that Anant's father also somehow borrowed money from relatives.

''Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh had said at that time that he was ready to pay whatever required to get Anant free.

That was the height of sensitivity and now the Income Tax authorities have shown the height of insensitivity by sending him the notice,'' Ms Swaraj said.

According to the BJP leader, in a similar case in Rajasthan, the Income Authorities had sent notice to father of another kidnapped child about the source of ransom money. She demanded that IT authorities must adopt a humane approach to such incidents.

Ms Swaraj's contention was supported by other BJP and SP members.
