CM land issue rocks AP House for third day
Hyderabad, Dec 15 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly today witnessed an acrimonious debate over the 310 acre of 'assigned land' surrendered by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
While the ruling party members stoutly defended the chief minister for surrendering the land, describing him as a modern day Vinobha Bhava, the Opposition contended that Dr Reddy had committed a crime by njoying illegal benefits from the land for over 30 years and pressed for his immediate resignation and prosecution as per law.
When the House assembled for the day, the Speaker announced he was disallowing the adjournment motion tabled by the Opposition parties on the issue.
Later, participating in the short duration discussion, the Congress Legislator T Jeevan Reddy launched a scathing attack on Leader of the Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu as also TRS Floor Leader G Vijayrama Rao for holding lands illegally.
Vehemently denying the charges, Mr Naidu and Mr Rao challenged the government to take action if it had any proof.
The government had so far appointed a number of inquiry commissions but could not prove anything wrong, Mr Naidu said.
Denying the Congress charge that he was a land grabber, Mr Rao said ''I have not encroached any land.'' The revenue authroties had given a clean chit to him, he added.
