Marathi to be compulsory in CBSE, ICSE schools in Maharashtra
Nagpur, Dec 14 (UNI) Teaching of Marathi would be made compulsory in schools in Maharashtra following the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and ICSE (Indian Council for Secondary Education) pattern, Minister of State for School Education Hassan Mushrif told the state Legislative Council today.
Replying to supplementaries on a question from Anil Parab (Shiv Sena), Mr Mushrif said teaching of Marathi would be made compulsory even for schools that change from the state board pattern to the CBSE or ICSE pattern. The state government would not issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) to such schools until they agreed to teach Marathi, he said.
Earlier, Jitendra Awhad (NCP) wanted to know if Marathi was being taught in CBSE and ICSE schools in the state. Ulhas Pawar (Congress) pointed out that the Supreme Court had given a ruling making it mandatory for schools to teach the local language.
