Guwahati,Dec 14 (UNI) The Asom government has adopted a multi-pronged anti-malaria strategy in the wake of disease acquiring an alarming dimension in the state.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Bishwa Sharma today informed the state Assembly that all the public health centers (PHCs) in the state would be provided with RDK kit for early detection of malaria, while 240 ayurvedic doctors would be appointed at one go on December 22 in government health centers at malaria -prone areas in the state.

The state government would distribute ten lakh impregnated mosquito nets among below poverty line (BPL) families in malaria -endemic areas of the state this year compared to only one lakh such nets distributed last year.

The Minister further informed that spraying of the DDT would start in January and February next year, while the normal practice was to carry out the operation in June every year.

Dr Sharma informed that the DDT would be sprayed earlier this time to make it more effective vis-a-vis prevention of malaria.

With more funds expected from the Central government under the National Malaria Eradication Programme, the state Health department would provide one ambulence per PHC in the state and each of the PHCs would be provided with average Rs 50,000 to buy fuel for these ambulances so that mobility of vehicles were not hampered and those could be deployed in malaria-affected areas effectively.
