Snow in Upper region of Darjeeling
Darjeeling, Dec 13 (UNI) A coldwave condition is sweeping across the northern part of Bengal, with mercury dipping below normal in hilly Darjeeling and some parts in the plains of Jalpaiguri district.
According to holiday makers returning from the upper reaches of Darjeeling said that Sandakphu, prime attraction for trekkers, and Singalila National Park had been experiencing light snow for past few days.
Darjeeling town was also reeling under a bit of coldwave condition with mercury dipping to almost freezing point due to overcast conditions since some days.
In the plains of Siliguri town and some places of Jalpaiguri district, the chilling cold was not much this time as it was last year as mercury was hovering between 10 to 13 degrees celsius.
However, weather expert at the North Bengal University' Met Department, Dr Subir Sarkar told UNI that last night coldwind was not part of coldwave. It occurred due to some western disturbance caused rain last night.
