Selectors can call back non-performers mid-way through a tour: Shah

Mumbai, Dec 14 (UNI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to crack the whip on the non-performers in the team, saying that the flops can expect to receive a call to return back from a tour.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah told UNI over the phone today that the selectors have been given all powers to call back certain players midway from the tour if they fail to give their best.

Mr Shah said this issue is entirely in the hands of the selectors and it is upto them if they want to remain satisfied with the players who are not performing or want to call them back.

''The selectors have been entrusted with the powers to do so,'' he added.

Mr Shah also did not know why such a hue and cry was being made out of this.

''We remove players doing a home series, it is the same way on a foreign tour,'' he added.

In Indian cricket history, players have never been recalled from a tour for reasons other than injury or indiscipline.

However, Shah's forthright statement did not find any backers in the selection committee with chief of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar in South Africa made it clear that that unless a team member gets injured or is not able to continue playing for any other reason, he would not be asked to go back.
