Pvt airlines cancel Kolkata flights tomorrow for CITU strike
Kolkata,Dec 13 (UNI) All the private and Indian flights for tomorrow have been cancelled in view of the Left trade union CITU-spsonsored 24-hour nationwide strike to protest the UPA government's industrial policy.
Indian spokesperson said here today that they had cancelled all their 22 domestic flights tomorrow keeping in view passenger safety and lack of logistics support.
Private operators sources said flights would also reman cancelled tomorrow.
Airport Director V K Monga said the union had conveyed to him that they will not support the management in anyway tomorrow, adding the airport will be more or less paralysed.
However, the officers of the Airports Authority will man the Airport Traffic Control (ATC) so that flights flying over the city face no problems.
Jet Airways, Air Sahara, SpiceJet, Kingfisher, Indigo and Air Deccan had conveyed their decision regarding withdrawal of services to Kolkata tomorrow to Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Tuesday.
''We know from our past experience that the strike protagonists will not allow us to function. There is no point keeping passengers on tenterhooks when the state lends its support, '' sources in a private carrier said.
''There has been mass cancelletaions of tickets except those in the wee hours,'' sources said.
AAI officials said last year the CITU supporters set a blockade in front of Airport Ashok hotel, switched of public address system and jammed conveyer belts.
