Punjab to take on Delhi in Umrigar trophy final on Dec 16

Patiala, Dec 13 (UNI) Punjab will take on Delhi in the final of the Polly Umrigar Trophy (Under 15 ) at the Dhruv Pandove stadium here from December 16 to 18.

Fancied Punjab chalked out a thumping victory against underdogs Karnataka on the basis of a huge first innings lead in the crucial semi-final match which ended here today.

Overnight 388 for 7, Punjab batsman heaped further miseries on Karnataka bowlers, taking the score to a mammoth 442 for 8 when the Punjab skipper Mandeep Singh declared the innings. Pankaj scored a fluent 72 which was studded with 6 fours.

For Karnataka, Bharat Kundaji was the only bowler who met with a degree of success, capturing 3 wickets, conceding 134 runs.

At the end of day's play, Karnataka had scored 161 for 4 in 67 overs in the second innings which had no bearing on the result, since Punjab were declared winners on the basis of first innings lead. Karun Nair played a useful knock of 77, hitting 11 boundaries.

Bhavish Goyal was quite penetrative of the Punjab bowlers to capture 3 wickets, giving away 35 runs.
