PM should order for CBI probe in sensex crash: Swamy
Chennai, Dec 13 (UNI) Janata Party President S Subramanian Swamy today demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must order a CBI probe into the recent stock market crash.
In a statement here, he said the crash was engineered by forces, who had been active since the heydays of Harshad Mehta in 1992.
He alleged that Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's remarks that inflation was so unacceptably high that interest rate will rise because of CRR being raised and that participatory notes will not be banned despite Trajure committee recommendation, has triggered the downward slide in the bourse. It was timed for the windfall gains from buying in June this year and selling last week, he added.
The CBI must be asked to investigate who owned the eight companies that had amassed Rs 4,000 crore in profiteering by short selling shares, he added.
