PM may intervene in debate on Indo-US deal
New Delhi, Dec 13: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may intervene in the debate on Indo-US nuclear cooperation to be held in the Lok Sabha on December 16 after his return from Japan.
The reply to the discussion on the nuclear deal will be made by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs P R Dasmunsi told reporters here today.
He said the Central Education Bill will be passed tomorrow and all the remaining pending business will be completed by December 18.
Mr Dasmunsi said that inspite of several meetings with the Left parties, no solution could be found to the tabling of banking and pension regulatory bills.
Referring to the Communal Violence Bill lying with the Standing Committee, he said the report had been submitted today. The Home Ministry would examine the report before the matter would come up before the Cabinet. The Bill may not see the light of the day in this Session of Parliament, he added.
Since the Prime Minister would be away to Japan, there would be no Cabinet meeting, he said, adding there was no urgency for a meeting. He sidestepped a question as to who was number two in the Cabinet who could preside over a meeting in the absence of the Prime Minister.
