Photo Electoral Rolls for TN to be ready in Feb: CEO

Madurai, Dec 13 (UNI) The much awaited photo electoral rolls (PER) for Tamil Nadu will be ready by the end of February next, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Naresh Gupta said today.

About 80 per cent of the eligible voters have been videographed for this purpose, he told newspersons here after a review meeting with the District Collectors of five southern districts.

Expressing satisfaction at the pace of the work in the southern districts, he said the recent byelection to the Madurai Central Assembly constituency could have acted as a catalyst for this.

The videographing of the remaining 20 per cent voters was being taken up, he added.

To a question, he said delimitation of constituencies could be taken up only after a Presidential notification and added that the Election Commission was equipped to carry out the programme.
