Oppn stalls proceedings over CM's land issue, House adjourned
Hyderabad, Dec 13 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was abruptly adjourned for the day as the opposition stalled the proceedings demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy over the alleged illegal possession of land by his family members.
As soon as the House assembled, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy announced that he was disallowing adjournment motions given notice of by the TDP, TRS, BJP, CPI and CPI(M) on the surrender of lands held allegedly in violation of the Land Ceiling Act (LCA) by the family members of the Chief Minister.
Immediately, the oppositon party members rushed to the well of the House and demanded that the listed business be set aside and an immediate discussion be allowed on the Chief Minister's reported admission that the land belonging to his family members was surrendered to the government as the possession was in 'violation' of the LCA.
The Speaker announced the adjournment of the House first for 30 minutes as his repeated appeals to the agitated members fell on deaf ears.
As the opposition continued to disturb the proceedings when the House reassembled, the Speaker announced adjournment of the House for the day.
Earlier, the Speaker tried to bring about a solution by holding floor leaders meeting. While the Government agreed for a discussion on the issue on Friday, the oppositon parties insisted that the regular business be set aside and an immediate discussion be taken up on the issue of surrender of hundreds of acres owned by his family members back to the Government.
