No corroborative evidence of LeT infiltration in forces

New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) The Government today maintained that there was no 'corroborative evidence' to prove the veracity of infiltration of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operatives in Defence Forces and said that it had suitable system to guard national security against elements inimical to the nation.

Answering Mr S S Ahluwalia who sought clarification from the government about the reports of major national dailies in July 2006 to this effect Defence Minister A K Antony said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that a detailed verification of vetting of antecedents of personnel from the pre-recruitment stage existed and regular scrutiny and investigations were undertaken to rule out attempts of inimical elements to infiltrate into Armed Forces. It was an ongoing process, he said.

About the presence of Pakistani operatives in Bangladesh, Nepal and India, the Minister said Indian security agencies were quite alert to attempts of hostile countries to carry out terrorist acts in India and these elements have been neutralised by counter intelligence agencies. Comprehensive preventive measures were being enforced and regular scrutiny were carried out time to time to make the apparatus fool proof, he said.
