HC orders regular release of 1,000 cusec water in Ganga
Allahabad, Dec 13 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today directed officials to release of 1,000 cusec water from Narora Dam into the Ganga river regularly from tomorrow onwards for the 'Ardh Kumbh Mela' here.
The bench comprising Chief Justice A N Ray and Justice Ashok Bhushan, further directed for increasing the water as per requirement during the Mela.
The court also issued directions to the DM and SSP Kanpur, besides Kanpur Jal Sansthan, Kanpur Nagar Nigam, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board and other authorities to ensure that effluent from tanneries should not be discharged in the river without passing through the treatment plant.
The HC directed the monitoring committee to sit weekly to ensure adequate supply of water for the Ardh Kumbh.
The court passed this order on a PIL filed by Hari Chaitanya Brahmchari Maharaj, Teekarmafi, Allahabad, which sought release of adequate water in the Ganga during the whole Mela period at Allahabad for the pilgrims.
The next hearing will be held on December 27.
