Godrej to invest in passion fruit in Mizoram
Aizawl, Dec 13 (UNI) The Mizoram government has chalked out a plan to sell processed passion fruit in collaboration with Godrej Agrovet Pvt Ltd here.
Talking to UNI here today, state Agricultural Minister H Rammawi disclosed that the Horticulture department had developed a new strategy wherein production and sales of cash-crops would be undertaken with help from private companies.
In a recent meeting held here, the state bureaucrats headed by the Agriculture Minister, discussed the procedures for sale of passion fruit in its processed form with Godrej Agrovet vice-president R S Vijan.
It was decided at the meeting, the rate at which passion fruit would be purchased from the growers and the rate at which the company would be able to purchase unadulterated passion fruit juice.
''The state's Horticulture department would take charge in the area where the fruits would be grown and Godrej Agrovet has already entered into an agreement with the state government for growing oil palms and jatropha plants,'' Mr Rammawi said.
The job of purchasing passion fruit from the growers, conducting market research and survey would be the onus of Godrej Agrovet and the provision of necessary machineries and quality control.
