CPI(M) condemns Police lathicharge on SFI activists
Hyderabad, Dec 13 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh unit of CPI(M) Secretary B V Raghavulu today condemned police lathicharge on activists of the Student Federation of India (SFI), while staging a dharna demanding the government to increase scholarships for the Backward Class (BC), SC and ST students in the state.
Mr Raghavulu, who came to the spot to participate in the dharna after the lathicharge, told newspersons that the state government had failed to fulfill the promises given during the elections and had 'murdered' the democratic spirit in the state by resorting to lathicharge on the students.
He said the Left affiliated student organisations would intensify the agitation, if the government failed to solve the issue of the students.
Mr Raghavulu demanded that the government make an announcement on the increase of the student scholarships.
All opposition parties would raise the issue in the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the SFI state unit had given a state-wide bandh call on December 15 and had urged the student community to boycott the classes and participate in the dharnas being organised at all mandal head quarters.
Later, the SFI acitivists reassembled at the venue and resumed their dharna.
More Police force had been deployed at the venue to prevent any untoward incident.
