Court disposes Nikhalje's anticipatory bail plea in rioting case

Mumbai, Dec 13 (UNI) A local court today disposed of two anticipatory bail pleas by Deepak Sadashiv Nikhalje, younger brother of underworld don Chhota Rajan, filed in connection with violence in parts of north east Mumbai to protest the desecration of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue in Kanpur.

Judge M L Tahilyani observed that Nikhalje was not wanted in Ghatkopar and Shivajinagar cases as per the prosecution's argument filed in this connection.

Nikhalje had last week filed four anticipatory bail applications before the Sessions court, praying relief in the cases registered against him in Tilak Nagar, Trombay, Ghatkopar and Shivajinagar police station areas under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), including prevention of damages to the Public Property Act.

The court had already disposed of his plea with regard to Tilaknagar and Trombay on the same ground.

Meanwhile, Nikhalje, who was arrested in a rioting case with Nehrunagar police station, had obtained bail on December 7 from Vikhroli Metropolitan Magistrate on a bond of Rs 5,000.

Police had registered cases against him in various police station areas after dalit activists, led by him, allegedly indulged in stone pelting on the buses on November 28.
