Christians protest against statue desecration
Mysore, Dec 13 (UNI) Various progressive organisations, religious institutions and supporters voicing concern over the desecration of Infant Jesus statue in a school here recently, today took out a massive silent procession in the city, condemning the atrocities against minority communities.
The procession was organised by the Federation of Peace and Harmony, in which over 15 organisations participated. The procession passed through the main thoroughfares of the city, culminating in the Deputy Commissioner's office. Later, they handed over a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner S Selvakumar.
Former Union Minister V Srinivasa Prasad, addressing the gathering at the Deputy Commissioner's office, came down heavily on the JD(S)-BJP coalition Government, stating it was an ''unholy and unethical'' one and alleged the Government was dancing to the tunes of ''communal forces''.
Condemning the desecration of the statue, he said this highly unsavoury act was propagated by vested interests. He lauded Christian institutions' immense contribution to society in the education field.
Former Ministers T John and H Viswanath, Raitha Sangha President K S Puttaniah, K T George, MLA, and other leaders also took part in the procession. Earlier, Bishop of Mysore Dr Thomas Vazhapillai requested the processionists to maintain peace throughout their route.
