67th anniversary of INS Circars celebrated at ENC
Visakhapatnam, Dec 13 (UNI) The Indian naval ship 'Circars,' the flagship of Eastern Naval Command (ENC) celebrated its 67th anniversary at the naval base here.
Circars was established on December 12, 1939 by the British to use Visakhapatnam for its military opertions. Over the years, the role of INS Circars has changed from coordinating naval operations, functioning as a repair organisition and being an establishment for boys training, to its present status of being the premier base depot of the Eastern Naval Command.
To mark the anniversary yesterday, the Commanding Officer G V Babu inspected the ship company at divisions and reviewed the parade.
Later, addressing the officers and sailors, he said Circars, being the base support establishment for the ENC has numerious responsibilities for assisting in smooth functioning of the command.
He gave away proficiency award to 17 sailors, DSC jawans and civilians employees in recognition of their services.
INS Circars, being the shore support establishment, has been providing administrative and logistic support to other units under the ENC. It also looks after the accommodation and other support facilities for the naval personnel besides providing assistance to civil authorities during natural calamities, the ENC release said.
