42nd inter IIT sports meet gets underway at IIT Guwahati

Guwahati, Dec 13 (UNI) The IIT Guwahati is hosting the 42nd Inter -IIT Sports Meet for the fist time in its history from today.

In this year's meet, IITs are competing altogether for eleven events in athletics, hockey, lawn tennis, table tennis, volleyball, football, cricket, weightlifting, badminton, basketball and aquatics.

There are several sub-events within events like athletics, weightlifting and women lawn tennis has been held this year as a demo event, organising committee sources here said.

Each of the seven IITs is being represented by a contingent of maximum of 130 participants. More than 800 participants are taking part in this year's meet. Altogether 150 officials are helping in conducting the meet over duration of eight days from December 13 to 20.

Eminent sports personality of Asom and recipient of the Arjuna Award Bhogeshwar Baruah will be the chief guest in the inaugural programme.
