Singing of National Song not to be made mandatory in schools
New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) The Centre has no proposal to make the singing of the National Song and National Anthem mandatory in schools everyday, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A A Fatmi said in a written reply that the President of the Constituent Assembly stated at its meeting on January 24, 1950 that ''The composition consisting of the words and music known as 'Jana Gana Mane' is the National Anthem of India and the song ' Vande Mataram', which has played a historic part in the struggle for India freedom, shall be honoured equally with ' Jana Gana Mana' and shall have equal status with it.'' He said this was a motion from the Chair which was not debated upon or put to vote.
