Police bust a gang of ivory smugglers, 45 kg seized

Jaipur, Dec 12 (UNI) The Jaipur police have busted a gang of ivory smugglers with the arrest of seven people with 45 kg of ivory from them here today.

Superintendent of police Jaipur (south) Vishal Bansal said a team led by Sub Inspector Sunil Prasad on a tip off intercepted a Gypsy and an Innova at the Martyer's Memorial here.

On search of the vehicle the team found 45 kg of ivory which is worth more than Rs one crore in the international market. The arrested are Purushotam Agarwal(37)a resident of Assam, Sathish Gupta of New delhi, Shanker Aiyer, Dilip Singh, Lokendra Singh, Veerendra Singh of Jaipur and Banwarlal of Ajmer.

SP Vishal Bansal said Purushottam Agarwal procured the ivory from Arunachal and sent it to Delhi by courier. He reached Delhi by train. Satish Gupta and Purushottam then reached Jaipur and the rest of the arrested joined them in Jaipur.

The police is looking for the other business partners of the gang.
