Martyn may have to forego $200,000 for sudden retirement

Sydney, Dec 12 (UNI) The sudden decision to hang up his boots can cost Damien Martyn dear as the former Australia batsman may well not recieve 200,000 Aus dollars for the five months left on his contract.

According to 'The Australian', Cricket Australia (CA) is all set to veto a push by the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) to give the batsman a golden handshake by paying him for the unfulfilled months.

Martyn, who suddenly retired from all forms of cricket last Friday and plans to move to the United States, was on a contract believed to be worth around 460,000 dollar per year.

While it is expected of CA to deem Martyn's contract cancelled since last Friday, the ACA is pitching in for the player and is likely to bring up the points such as the 35-year-old's retirement paved way for selecters to inject some youth in the ageing side, the newspaper said.
