HRD ministry launches special literacy drive in 3 N E states
Shillong, Dec 12 (UNI) The Ministry of Human Resources of Development has launched a special drive for reduction of literacy rate in three North Eastern states-- seven districts in Arunachal Pradesh, three in Meghalaya and two in Nagaland, a senior HRD official said today.
According to the official, the special drive is aimed to cover nearly 36 million illiterates in the country between 2005-2007 within a time-bound manner.
The drive has been undertaken in 150 districts of the country which have the lowest literacy rates, as a results of which, around 11 million people have been made literate in the last two years, he said.
He said the total literacy campaigns are being implemented in 110 districts, post literacy campaigns in 177 districts and continuing education programme in 310 districts (with more than 2 lakh continuing education centres.) UNI RRK KK RN1652
