HC dismisses Corporator's plea for externment of ex-Corporator
Mumbai, Dec 12 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today dismissed a petition seeking implementation of an order passed by the court in 2000 directing externment (tadipar) of influential NCP leader Gilbert Mendonca from Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, Thane, on charges of attempt to murder.
A Division Bench comprising Justice S B Mhase and S R Sathe while dismissing the plea held that Mendonca had no past criminal record.
The petition was filed by Milan Mhatre, Corporator of Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, on whom murder was attempted.
His counsels Niteen Pradhan and Shrinivas Patwardhan submitted before the court that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate had ordered the externment of the political leader in 1994 and later in 1999, but the same was challenged by Mendonca and rejected by the High Court.
Mendonca's counsel V R Manohar opposed the petitioner, submitting that the matter was very old and had no relevance anymore.
