D'Souza inaugurates GSPCB's automatic weather monitoring station
Panaji, Dec 11( UNI) State Deputy Chief Minister and Environment Minister Dr Wilfred D'Souza today inaugurated the automatic weather monitoring station worth Rs two lakh, installed on the terrace of the GSPCB building here.
The move has been considered as a step by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), towards making environment in Goa clean and healthy.
The system has sensors for measuring six parameters like wind speed, wind direction, atmospheric temperature, solar radiation, relative humidity and rainfall at a frequency of one minute, and can run unattended continuously. The Data Logger of the system receives the raw data from all the six sensors, computes hourly average of all the six parameters and stores the data in its memory.
It has a capacity to store the data continuously for 60 days. The stored data can be retrieved and archived at any convenient time and used for processing.
The Data Logger is interfaced to a computer located in the board's Laboratory, which makes it convenient to transfer and archive the stored data to the computer on regular basis. A special software supplied along the system makes it possible for further processing and quick interpretation of the data like presentation of the data on tabular form or preparation of graphical plots called 'Wind-Roses' or frequency distributions on monthly/ seasonal/annual basis.
