New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) The Delhi Police have busted a gang involved in duping people by offering them jobs in the Merchant Navy and arrested two persons.

Virender Kumar Sharma and Payal Dhupper have been arrested by the anti-fraud and cheating section of the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing for cheating many people on the pretext of getting them jobs in Merchant Navy. The arrested came after many of those duped by the two complained that they neither provided them a job or training nor returned their money.

While V K Sharma was operating in guise of M/S Marine Shakti Management and Manning (P) Ltd in Karol Bagh, Payal Dhupper was operating under M/S Persian International Mariners management in Pitampura.

Many incriminating documents like passports, application forms of the victims, seaman books and prospectuses of several training institutes were recovered from the above two offices.

Police said the two had duped several people to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore.

The modus operandi of the racketeers was to first give advertisements in newspapers promising a bright future in Merchant navy. The applicants were asked to pay huge amounts for the so-called training.

After a sham training, the victims were sent to UAE and Dubai on small ships and boats where they had to face many hardships. But, no jobs were forthcoming for them.

When the victims, on realising they had been duped, went to the offices of the accused, they found the offices closed.
