70 weapon storage containers reach Nepal from India
Kathmandu, Dec 12 (UNI) A total of 70 weapon storage containers from India, for storing weapons of the CPN (Maoist) combatants, reached at the Dry Port of Sirsiya Khalwatola of Parsa district, state run media reports said here today.
The containers brought through the Haldiya Port of Kolkotta, India, were brought to the Dry Port through railways following the agreement between the Maoists and the Nepal government to manage their arms.
The task of painting the containers white is taking place rapidly after which they would be dispatched to the areas approved by the United Nations, the Dry Port Office said.
The containers were brought to Birgunj as per the understanding reached between the Government of Nepal and the Maoist in the presence of the UN on November 28 regarding the arms management of both.
As per the understanding, the weapons belonging to the Maoist combatants would be stored in the storage container under the single lock system of the UN and the key to the container would remain with the concerned commanders.
